live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> moments ago, president obama arrived at san francisco international airport on a quick west coast fundraiser trip leaving seattle this morning and will head to los angeles later today. good morning, i am eric thomas. >> we have team coverage on president obama's whirlwind trip to san francisco. first we have our reporter at sfo. >> air force one landed a short time ago at 10:38 this morning.

a beautiful day here in the san francisco bay area unlike in seattle where it was foggy, dreary. the president was greeted by california senator feinstein who was looking completely different. she has a new "do," and president obama has in california certainly more than 50 times to attend different events most having been fundraisers because here is where the president gets the big bucks although because his rating has again down the organizers of one of the event in san francisco had to lower the ticket price to make sure they had a packed house. he has one, two, three events here in san francisco. all of the events are in san francisco and he returns to sfo then departs at 3:30 this afternoon. for every reporter that coughs

san francisco did its usual, cleaning up and blocking off of streets for a presidential visit. the secret service forced the city to shut down cable car service because the first event is across from the cable car barn. with all the inconveniences the supporters still find it thrilling. >> it is exciting because right here in chinatown in the heart of san francisco you look at how many people are here it is exciting. >> the times are not as good for the president as during the last visit in the summer. his approval rating was then 62 percent but now he is at 39 percent. he can still count on a friendly welcome in liberal san francisco. >> always a top man, right in regardless of what is happening. not his fault. >> but support seems to be down. ticket prices for a fundraiser were discounted because they were not selling and there are demonstrators outside the rec center where he will give a

what the student endured. the president continued by saying and i quote, "by failing to recognize the meaning of a confederate flag and intervene earlier or impose sanctions as soon as the gravity of the behavior was cheer, we failed him, i failed him." the president will be at the naacp press conference at noon. four white freshmen were suspended and three face hate crimes and battery charges and the fourth is a juvenile expected to face similar charges. the district attorney will not comment on the four students. they live with their then 17-year-old black roommate from august to october and are accused of taunting him. the four put a bicycle lock around his neck. the naacp is saying this obviously is race based terrorism targeting the african american roommate. the president of the university

says an independent expert will be named to lead a task force to examine the university's policies and practices and propose reforms. he said that additional training is planned for all resident assistance and on-campus housing and more campus forums will be hell the next couple of beaks. >> happening right now, police have blocked off streets near yale university looking for the reports of a gunman near campus in new haven, connecticut. staff and students are advised to shelter in place. the search began with a call placed from a phone booth reporting a person with a gun on campus. there are no reports of any shots being fired or anyone getting hurt. yale is on a break this week. >> frightening moments on a flight from san francisco to new york after a bird strike at john f. kennedy airport. the pilot had to declare an emergency moments before landing after smelling smoke in the
